Ollantaytambo Archaeological Complex

During the time of the Incas, this city was strategically located for the control and dominance of the surrounding valleys. Ollantaytambo was divided into 2 sectors, first in Qosqo ayllu at the foot of the Pinkulluna hill occupied by the town and currently inhabited by locals, the second sector is Araqama Ayllu, where the fortress and important religious buildings are located.

Meaning of the Name “Ollantaytambo”

It comes from the name of Captain Inka Ollantay, its story is dramatized in a work about the love that Inka Ollantay and the princess Cusi Coyllur have, this love is rejected by her father, Sapa Inka, because Ollantay belongs to a lower level and this is revealed. to the Inka for the love he has for Cusi Coyllur and Tambo which means resting place, these places were strategically located having a large food reserve.

To climb the stones to the highest part they had to use ramps. Ollantaytambo was not 100 percent completed by the arrival of the Spanish.
